When we open the scope of our practice to an approach that is more of a process than a technique or formula for alignment then yoga postures, mind and movement merge together into an expansive, liberating form that literally feels as though we are connected to infinity. In this class, working with postures found the in the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga system of practice, we will explore the subtle layers of movement and form that facilitate this feeling and form. Befriending Pain with Yin Yoga & Loving-Kindness

There is a primordial drive within all living-beings to be free of pain, to move away from discomfort of the mind and body. This habitual, reactive pattern, is in-turn exacerbated by a culture which demonizes pain, pushing upon us innumerable quick-fix strategies to relieve our discomfort, substantiating the unrelenting drive to get-away from anything that feels uncomfortable.


And although we may be well-intentioned in our attempts to move away from these unpleasant states, it is paradoxically the aversive reaction itself which perpetuates the pain and impedes our ability to move beyond it.

But what if we could look upon pain, not as an enemy, or something we have to get-away from. But as a teaching, as a catalyst for healing and spiritual growth? What would happen if, instead of running away from pain, we befriended it?

Through integrating the passive postures of Yin Yoga with the Buddhist practice of metta, or loving-kindness meditation, we will reframe our relationship to mental and bodily pain, gifting ourselves the ability to find refuge within the epicenter of that which the mind has been running from since time immemorial - an imperative first-step towards healing the mind and body.

- A healing journey

This evening, Irene is inviting you to jump from the mind and plunge into the beauty of your heart. An invitation to quiet down, to unwind, to surrender. To the sounds and to the silence. To yourself.
We were born as love. And as babies we never denied the beauty of our own existence! Once we got a little older, we (or at least: many of us) took on the idea that love and happiness is to be found somewhere outside of ourselves. We looked for it in relationships, in work, in external validation. We go all over the place, to realize that maybe we are looking too far away for something that is so near...
This Saturday evening we go back inside. Back into our hearts. Back to where love already is. Irene shares simple Tibetan meditation practices to embrace and love ourselves exactly as we are. Through Yin Yoga poses we help the body to unwind and open up.

At the end of the Yin journey, you will get to enjoy a long end-relaxation (Savasana) and sound healing bath. Crystal bowls, chimes, Tibetan singing bowls, a guitar and Irene her voice will create a sound landscape in which you can rest and just be.

You don't have to believe in anything. And there is nothing you need to fix about yourself. Just come as you are. And if you don't feel like going into the Yin poses, but just wish to enjoy the healing sounds and the silence by laying on your mat, you are more than welcome too!

Note: please take a warm sweater and blanket to keep yourself warm during the sound bath.

A Drop of Nectar: Internal Forms, Breath and Mudra
True nectar is said to be composed of compassion, insight and humor. It is released from the root of the palate when inhaling pattern of prana and the exhaling pattern of apana unite to form mulabandha into a proper mudra. Ashtanga Vinyasa is the continuous cultivation of this fine ambrosial drink/ essence by following a thread of its flavor through and between postures, breaths, thoughts and techniques. In this class we will explore opening and then releasing vivid, internal (organic) anatomy patterns in sync with the breath. This method fully uses the imagination to feel complementary full body patterns which – when interfaced with each other - open the central channel. The repeated practice of these internal forms eventually frees us from that very same imagination as it gives (technical skill with) a taste of kindness and humor. All levels welcome.
